Description:

Manufactured in Solingen, this sword shows a few minor deviations from the 1860 regulations for the Staff & Field Sword. Measuring 36 1/4 inches overall with a straight 30 inch blade ground in a diamond cross section over most of the length, a rectangular ricasso and decorated with an 11 inch panel on each side. The panels are an interesting "tricolor" arrangement with a gold washed field and a mixture of niter blue and bright steel martial and patriotic designs. Gold finished brass hilt with extensive sculpted floral designs, a cut-through American Eagle on the languet, a sculpted American Eagle on the vase-shaped pommel, and a metal grip made from alternating strips of checkerboard finished bright brass and smooth silver plated brass. With a nickel finished scabbard, gilt fittings, pierced-through suspension bands and raised grapevine designs on the tip.

Rating Definition:

Very good. Some mild spotting and pitting is present on the very fine blade with over 90% of the multi-finish panels present. The hilt shows a fine brass patina overall with original gold in the protected areas and 60% plus silver on the grip. Scabbard is fair with dark patches around the fittings, a screw absent from the throat and mild handling marks.
