This Colt Lighting Small Frame .22 caliber rifle was manufactured in 1899. The walnut forearm has light border markings as if it was at some point going to be checkered. The receiver, 24 inch octagon barrel and 15-shot half-magazine are blued. The barrel has a standard dovetail front sight and fixed notch rear sight. The straight grip, walnut stock has a black, checkered, hard rubber buttplate embossed with the Rampant Colt trademark. The top of the barrel is roll-stamped with the Colt Hartford address and 1883, 1885, 1886 and 1887 patent dates in two lines ahead of the rear sight. "22 CAL" is stamped in script on the left side of the barrel between the rear sight and the receiver. The Rampant Colt trademark is marked on the left side of the receiver. The serial number is on the lower tang.

Fine. The rifle retains 70% of the original finish with a brown patina on the balance. The brass pieces have a mustard yellow coloration. Dark case colors remain visible on the sides of the hammer. There is some varnish on the tangs. The wood is good as revarnished with a crack along the length of the forearm along the left side along with various small scratches and pressure marks. Mechanically functions fine.
