This Model 1879 carbine features a folding ladder rear sight graduated to 1,500 yards on a base graduated 1-8, a pinned blade front sight, the correct three click tumbler, and saddle ring bar with ring mounted on the left side of the stock. The breech block is marked "U.S./MODEL/1873" and the lock plate is marked with the eagle motif and "U.S./SPRINGFIELD". The barrel has the "V/P/eagle head/P" proof and inspection marks. It has a straight wrist stock with a clear "SWP/1880" boxed cartouche on the left and a circled script "P" behind the lower tang. It has a single "U" marked barrel band and a rifle style "U.S." marked buttplate with compartment containing a three piece cleaning rod.

Rating Definition:

Very fine. The carbine retains 80% of the original blue finish with 90% plus of the rich case colors on the breech block door and interior. The finish is thinning in some areas including the lock plate and sides of the breech block and there are areas of light scratches from cleaning with an abrasive cloth near and over some of the markings. There are a few minor scratches and marks scattered throughout and some minor wear on the raised sections of the buttplate. The stock is also very fine with some minor scrapes and small dings. Mechanically excellent with clear markings.
