Description:

The rifle features a Buffington rear sight with precise windage and elevation adjustments and a fixed blade front sight. The lock plate is marked with the standard eagle/shield motif and "US/SPRINGFIELD" ahead of the hammer. The front of the breechblock is marked "U.S./MODEL/1884". The left side of the barrel is stamped with "V/P/eagle head/P" proofs at the breech and an "A" inspection marked on top. It is mounted with a oil finished straight wrist walnut stock with a "US" marked buttplate with a compartment containing a threaded cleaning rod tip. The bottom of the stock is marked with the inspector initials "R.D.R." and the circle script "P" behind the lower tang. The rifle also has the blue finished ramrod-bayonet.

Rating Definition:

Fine as arsenal/refinished. The barrel has a brown patina and the lock has a dark blue coloration. The breechblock has fiery case colors. The trigger guard retains nearly all of the blue finish. The wood is good with the inspector cartouche on the left scratched away and some other minor scratches and pressure marks throughout. The mechanism is functional, but the hammer catches on the breech latch which sits too far up and not into the groove on the stock. The markings aside from the cartouche are clear.
