Description:

This is a fine example of a early post WWI Weimar Navy issue Luger pistol as issued to the Reichswehr. This specific Luger is pictured on page 81 of the book "Weimar and Early Nazi Lugers" by Jan Still. This example was originally produced as a first issue altered Navy that was subsequently reworked to the second type or "altered safety model" in that the original, lower safety marked area was polished out with the word "GESICHERT" remarking to the upper position. The front toggle still retains the original script "DWM" logo along with the original "Crown/M" acceptance proofs on the left side of the barrel extension. The underside of the barrel is also stamped with a single "Crown/M" acceptance proof and full serial number. This pistol was then reissued to the Reichswehr after 1920 as the top of the chamber area has been restamped with the prominent "1920" date markings along with the early circled "S" proofmark on the barrel extension indicating it was reworked in the post 1920 era. The back strap is correctly marked "W.W.'5933" indicating it was originally issued by the Wilhelmshaven dock yard, with no other "N" or "O" Navy property marks. It has the military style numbering with the full number on the major parts with the partial number "87" on the various smaller components. The crown proof is also on the left side of the breech block and the extractor is marked "GELADEN". Standard front sight with the unique two-position, Navy rear sight marked with "100" and "200". It includes one Navy type magazine with the nickel plated magazine body with the wooden base that has the concentric circles on the sides, that is numbered "1214". This pistol is complete with a black Navy type Luger holster marked "LOH SOHNE/ACT.GES/BERLIN". The back of the holster has the original strap for the stock (which is not included) that has been modified by the addition of two leather loops to fit on a standard leather belt.

Rating Definition:

Very fine with 95% of the arsenal refurbished blue finish with edge and high spot wear with thinning and finish loss on the lower rear grip straps, side plate hump and front edges of the frame rails. The various small parts retain 60% of the reapplied straw colors. The grips are in very good condition overall with nice honest original checkering on both sides, with minimal handling marks with even honest wear across the tops of the checkering on both sides. This luger has matching numbers on the various parts except the magazine noted above, the grips and firing pin all of which are unnumbered. The holster is in very good condition with a nice original black color overall showing light age cracks in the leather surface overall with more scuffing and finish loss on the top of the flap. The stitching is intact overall.
