Description:

Predating the rise of the Nazi party, the knife of the State Forest Service (Staatsforstdienst) served as a badge of honor and rank, with white grips reserved for senior officials and Foresters. Measuring 17 5/8 inches overall, with an 12 7/8 inch blade bearing the Wingen logo on the left ricasso, etched hunting scenes on each side, and etched vine work on the spine. The hilt is brass with a sculpted fawn in a woodland scene on the clamshell languet, deer hoof rear quillion, sculpted oak leaves on the guard, a pair of smooth original ivory grips, each adorned with three gilt brass acorn and oak leaf ornaments, and a silver and green ribbon portapee with a solid acorn. With a brass fitted brown leather sheath equipped with an unusual vertical hanger; brown leather construction with a buckling strap above the acorn and a D-ring, likely compatible with a uniform belt/jacket quick-release clip.

Rating Definition:

Fine with some cracking and scuffing of the leather, a crack on the left grip panel, and mild handling marks overall. Blade is excellent.
