Description:

Napoleon on Horseback likely modeled after a much larger statue erected by Napoleon III in 1852 at the Champs-Elysee. It shows Napoleon dressed in a general's military dress uniform sitting on horseback as if headed to a victory parade after one of his conquests. Napoleon has a sword (separate piece) by his right side and a baton in his opposite hand. The horse has all hooves on the ground and the statue rests on a rectangular black marble plinth. The bronze is marked "Morise" on the ground by the backside of the horse's left hoof. Dimensions: H: 23". W: 7", L: 22". Weight: 44 lbs.

Rating Definition:

Very good overall with nice use of dark and light tones to create contrast and depth. Finish is a warm natural bronze tone on the horse with a green patina on Napoleon's clothing creating an attractive contrast. There are scattered handling marks and small spots of white oxidation found throughout. The plinth is very good with attractive marbling and only small handling marks.
