Description:

This is an excellent example of a early Colt Model 1905 Military pistol as produced in 1907. This pistol was Colt's real entry into the large caliber semi-automatic pistol market as it was chambered in the new 45 ACP cartridge. There were only 6,100 total of this model manufactured from 1905 to 1911. The slide is marked "PATENTED/APR. 20. 1897. SEPT. 9. 1902. DEC. 19. 1905" and "COLT'S PATENT FIRE ARMS MFG. CO./HARTFORD CONN. U.S.A." with the circled Rampant Colt behind the slide serrations; with the right side marked "AUTOMATIC COLT/CALIBRE 45 RIMLESS SMOKELESS". The upper trigger guard bow bears the Colt "VP" triangle proof with a "1" sub-inspector proof on the lower end. The slide is fitted with the early, narrow small oval front sight with the early round top rear sight. The right side has the exposed extractor, late thick checkered hammer with the half-cock notch and brass firing pin. It is fitted with the original walnut grips with the factory checkered pattern and the small diamonds around the grip screws. These early pistols have the Colt high polish blue finish with the Colt niter blue finish on the trigger, extractor, grip screws and magazine release. It is complete with an all blue unmarked Colt magazine.

Rating Definition:

Excellent with 90% plus of the bright original high polish blue finish overall with edge and high spot wear with some minor blue loss on both sides of the very front edges of the slide with thinning on the grips straps. The grips are also in excellent condition with nice distinct checkering on both sides, showing only minor wear across the tops of the checking, with a couple of light handling marks. Another really nice extremely high condition early Colt semi-automatic we have for sale.
