Description:

This is a beautiful, all original Colt Model 1903 pocket automatic pistol with "US PROPERTY" markings and two General Officers leather holsters for the Colt Model 1903, 32 ACP pistol. These pistols were a very successful commercial design that was adopted by the US military that became the standard sidearm for General Officers from WWII until the 1970s. This specific pistol was manufactured circa 1945, that was later sold by the U.S. Army to Lt Col. Glover Jr. in Oct 1945. LTC. Glover served during WWII and was in charge of aircraft distribution throughout the United States during the war and was later on General HAP Arnold's staff at Wright Patterson Air Force base. He also helped in the reconstruction of the Rheinmein Air base in Germany and was recalled during the Korea war, served in Germany. After the war he eventually joined Eastern Airlines and worked for them for many years. This excellent pistol has the standard, one-block, two-line Colt factory address and patent dates with the Rampant Colt behind the serrations. The right side of the slide is marked "COLT AUTOMATIC/CALIBRE 32 RIMLESS SMOKELESS". The serial number is located on the left side of the frame with the right side marked "U.S. PROPERTY". The slide is equipped with fixed sights and it is fitted with a set of checkered walnut grips with silver Colt medallions. It is complete with two early leather GO pistol holsters, probably made by the Atchsion Leather company. The first is an all brown version that was probably purchased at the time the pistol was and the second holster is an all black leather version made after 1956, when the military changed to all black leather. This excellent example is not listed as a GO pistol in the book since it was sold directly by the U.S. military from Springfield Armory, however it does include the bill of sale/War Dept. shipping document to LTC Glover.

Rating Definition:

Excellent with 99% of the original Colt parko-lubrite parkerizing with no visible wear. The walnut grips are also in excellent condition with nice distinct checkering on both sides with no visible wear. The brown leather holster is in fine condition with nice original brown color overall with tight stitching showing wear and wrinkling of the leather from actual use and carrying. The black holster is in excellent, like new condition with no visible wear or use. Certainly a very nice all original WWII manufacture Colt Model 1903 hammerless pocket pistol as sold by the U.S. Military.
