Description:

This is a rare example of an authentic WWII Model 1911A1 Pistol that was manufactured by the Singer Manufacturing Company during WWII. Under the Ordnance Educational Order No. W-ORD-396, the Singer Manufacturing Company only produced "500" pistols total, with almost all of them issued to the U.S. Army Air Corps. With such an extremely low total number produced and the high attrition rate during WWII, any surviving Singer M1911A1 is an extremely rare martial pistol that is highly sought after by collectors. This specific pistol retains it original WWII blued finish which is also extremely rare for this model. The left side of the slide is roll-stamped with the short Singer two line address of: "S. MFG.CO. / ELIZABETH, N.J., U.S.A.", with no markings on the right sides. The top of the slide is stamped with a "P" proofmark that is oriented toward the left side of the slide and the slide is correctly not stamped with the pistol serial number. The right side of the frame is stamped: "UNITED STATES PROPERTY / No S800115" in two lines, with "M 1911 A1 U.S.ARMY" towards the front of the frame with the left side stamped with the initials of Col. John K. Clement, (JKC), the Executive officer of the New York Ordnance District. There is a single "P" proofmark stamped on the left side above the magazine release. The pistol has the correct wide spur hammer with borderless checkering, checkered thumb safety, slide stop, trigger and main spring housing. The blued barrel is a war time replacement produced by the Colt manufacturing Company that is marked on the lower left side: "COLT 45 AUTO", with a single "P" proofmark on the left side of the lug and a capital "G" on the underside of the barrel in front of the lug. It has also been fitted with a set of early WWII checkered walnut grips with the full checkering on both sides. The pistol is complete with three WWII production, all blued magazines, two are marked with a capital "R" and one with a single "L" on the lips of the magazine bases.

Rating Definition:

Very fine with 75% of the original blue finish showing overall with thinning, spotting, and blue loss on top of the slide, front grip strap, mainspring housing and grip safety. The lower right edge of the slide also shows some very fine/minor pin-prick erosion or pitting. The replacement walnut grips are also in good condition with much of the original checkering still remaining overall but showing wear across the tops of the checkering, mixed with some minor pressure dents on the right side. The grips, magazine, and barrel were replaced early on during its service use as they both show consistent wear, most likely that is close to the overall condition of the pistol. A very scarce and highly desirable early WWII, Singer Mfg. Model 1911A1 pistols.
