Description:

Manufactured in 1914, this pistol was later released to the public through the Civilian Marksmanship Program which supplied quality military style firearms to the American public chiefly through National Rifle Association-affiliated shooting clubs. Fitted with blade front and flat top notch rear sights with the three-line patent information, two-line "SPRINGFIELD ARMORY/U.S.A." and the flaming bomb stamp on the left side of the slide, and the American Eagle and "MODEL OF 1911.U.S.ARMY." on the right. The frame is marked "N.R.A." below the serial number in addition to the standard military markings. Fitted with a long smooth trigger, wide checkered hammer, short grip safety, checkered slide stop and grip safety, flat mainspring housing with lanyard staple, checkered grips, a folded-base two-tone magazine and a Springfield "S/P" barrel.

Rating Definition:

Very fine with 85% plus of the original blue finish showing areas of brown patina along the grip straps and high edges and some scattered handling marks overall. A number of takedown scratches are present on the frame and the slide. The grips are fine with a few dings on the sharp checkering. Mechanically excellent. The N.R.A. 1911's were subjected to military use before being transferred to club hands and served as the "beginner pistol" for an untold number of budding American marksmen.
