Description:

This is a desirable Model 1941 Johnson Automatics, semi-automatic rifle, as manufactured by the Cranston Arms company as used during WWII. After the attack on Pearl Harbor the USMC acquired many of these rifles as a war expedient measure from the Netherlands Purchasing Commission and later used them in the early Japanese island hopping campaigns, eventually being replaced by the Army adopted M1 Garand rifle. They had several unique features, they had a quickly removable barrel which was useful for Marine Paratroopers and Marine Raiders, as well as having a 10 shot rotary magazine which could be quickly loaded with the five round stripper clips or single rounds in between battles, to top off the magazine. The top of the receiver has four-line, Johnson Automatics model markings, caliber and company address over serial number "B7943". The barrel is marked on the front of the barrel support "30-06/41" with the lug marked "7170E", with no other markings. The bolt is stamped with the number "C0499". The right side of the rear sight is stamped "METERS" with "M2" stamped on the left side. It is fitted with the original two-piece smooth walnut stock with a checkered steel buttplate. This scarce rifle comes with a commercial leather sling, and reproduction bayonet and leather scabbard.

Rating Definition:

Very fine with 85% plus of the original greenish parkerized finish overall with the rear sight still retaining its blued finish, showing light wear and finish loss on the sides of the receiver and exposed section of the barrel with some light browning on top of the perforated barrel jacket. The fore and aft stock set is in very good condition, with it nice original dark oil finish with the left side showing several heavier stock pressure dents. The parts are all original and correctly hand cycles and dry fires. A very nice, solid example of a scarce WWII Johnson Automatics rifle.
