This is an example of a Colt Model 1902 Sporting Model Automatic Pistol that was originally shipped in Dec 1902. It has a Colt factory letter dated June 1990 that lists this pistol as being in a 2 gun shipment to Samuel Hill, Prescott Az. As noted this example is the "Sporting Model" with the rounded butt, rounded hammer spur, seven-shot magazine and grooved grip serrations on the front of the slide, it also does not have the slide lock found on later Model 1902 pistols. The slide has the standard two block slide markings of: "BROWNING'S PATENT"/PAT'D APRIL 20. 1897/SEPTEMBER 9, 1902" followed by "COLT'S PATENT FIRE ARMS MFG. Co./HARTFORD .CONN. U.S.A." and the circled Rampant Colt at the rear, with the right side, marked "AUTOMATIC COLT/CALIBRE 38 RIMLESS SMOKELESS". The slide is fitted with the early, narrow front sight with the top rear sight. The right side of the frame is marked with the serial number. It is fitted with checkered hard rubber grips with "COLT" in a banner at the top and the circled Rampant Colt in the center. It has the Colt high polish commercial blue finish with niter blue on the trigger, rear sight and screws with a color casehardened. It is complete with one nickel plated magazine marked "PAT'D SEPT.9.1884.".

Very fine as professionally restored with near 99% blue finish overall with just a hint of wear on the front edge of the slide with some very light scratches/rub marks on the grip straps. The replacement grips are near mint. An exceptionally nice, Colt 1902 Sporting Model.
