Description:

This is an outstanding example of a WWII British Boys Anti-tank rifle that has been beautifully converted/rebarreled to use the 50 Cal BMG round, thus eliminating the need to have this weapon registered as a destructive device. Meaning it can be sold to anyone as a regular rifle. The British MKI antitank rifle was designed in the 1935/36 time frame and is commonly called a "Boys" rifle after it inventor/designer, Captain Boys. These were manufactured in response to the British Ministry's request for a lightweight man-portable high-velocity anti-tank rifle. It was adopted by the British Army in 1937 but was overtaken by advancements in tank armor making it somewhat ineffective against the Germans. It was used successfully during the 1940 Russo-Finnish war and again in the Far East against the light armored Japanese tanks. In the late 1950s many of these rifles were converted to .50 BMG for long range sniper use. As noted, this has a custom 50 caliber rifle barrel that follows the original profile very closely. In addition to that, it has an extremely nice, custom side mounted scope mount and base that currently holds a "24 X Unertl 2" target scope" with the fully adjustable target head with the original Unertl target mounts. The mount is very unique and extremely well made, probably by a custom gunsmith/machinist as the quality of the work is exceptional and the same goes for the barrel work. It still retains the original receiver, bolt, frame, buttstock, trigger mechanism and complete recoil system. The left front side of the receiver is marked "R.B./MK I" followed by "F 5015" which may indicate manufacture at the Fazalakery factory in England. It has the various British proofs on top of the receiver to include the British Broad Arrow proofs. These rifles use a top loading box magazine with the iron-sights offset to the left, very similar to the Bren gun. It is complete with a huge compliment of accessories, the least not to mention is "26ea" box magazines (22 original magazines and 4 modified for the 50 BMG), with three original magazine carrying containers, an original front mounted bipod, a spare bipod and a exceptionally nice, very unique, highly modified WWII Japanese mount for the heavy Type 92 machine gun. This mount is impressive in itself and which has now been modified to hold this rifle for long range, super accurate long range target shooting. The mount itself is an original WWII Japanese version, that retains the original base and legs along with the fully traversing and elevation mechanism that has been fitted with a highly modified pintle to hold this rifle. In addition to that this complete set up, this rifle comes with a huge custom made, stainless steel storage/carrying case that measures 64 X 11 X 12 inches, that will hold everything you need to take this rifle to the ranges that include, four correctly modified magazines (noted above), the cleaning rod, brushes, oils, solvent rifle with scope and mount. This is just not some case that you dump the stuff inside, but it is a unique, one of a kind custom made storage case that has separate small storage compartments inside the case to hold all this stuff so it doesn't rattle around. The consignor is a custom welder/machinist so you know it was all exceptionally well manufactured.

Rating Definition:

Very fine as custom rebarreled, refinished and mounted with scope with 98% of the current blue/black finish overall and only minor edge wear. The bolt is still correctly in the white and the wooden pistol grips and cheekpiece are all in fine condition. The various accessories, mount, bipods, and various magazines are all in fine condition. Just a super example of a range ready Boys Antitank rifle chambered in 50 BMG. If you are tired of seeing everyone at the local rifle range with a Barrett rifle, this is the gun for you, certainly a one of a kind set up.
