Description:

This is a very good example of a mid-WWII German 98K rifle manufactured by the Mauser Werke in Oberndorf. The receiver ring is marked with the "eagle/135" acceptance proof over "byf/ 42". The left side of the receiver and barrel are marked with a single "eagle/swastika" firing proof abd the left side the receiver side wall is stamped "Mod.98" in small block letters. It has the earlier style all milled components: barrel bands, trigger guard and floor plate. It has the correct mid-war style bolt with a rib on the side. It is fitted with a correct laminated stock and handguard with a single "eagle/WaA" 135 proof on the right side and a smaller proof inside the pistol grip behind the trigger guard. It is fitted with a cupped steel buttplate. The barrel has the standard fixed front sight with the military tangent rear sight graduated to 2,000 meters. All the various visible serial numbers are matching. It is complete with an original WWII leather sling, cleaning rod and front sight cover.

Rating Definition:

Very fine overall with 85% plus of the wartime blue finish showing some very minor spots of very light surface corrosion just starting to develop (that can be easily addressed) on the exposed metal parts. The stock and handguard are both in very good condition with a nice dark finish overall showing some old sanding on the underside of the buttstock in front of the buttplate. The buttplate does some heavy corrosion. As noted all the visible serial numbers are matching. A very nice looking early Mauser K98 service rifle.
