Description:

This is an outstanding example of a desirable early 1940 dated WWII Nazi German Army Luger holster, marked on the back; "DLU/1940/P08/Eagle WaA 727". The "DLU" maker's code stood for the firm Ewald Luneschloss, Militar-Effekten-Fabrik, Solingen, Nordrhein-Westfalen. The "WaA 727" is a Waffenamt marking. Just above, in lightly stamped ink is a small "P.08" marking which designates that this is a German Luger holster. Note that this a transitional holster model, for normally the P.08 marking is stamped directly into the leather in large format to the right side of the right belt loop. This holster has a light brown color overall with the desirable all white cotton stitching. This leather color is very unusual, for once the War began almost all Army Luger holsters were manufactured in either black or dark brown leather. Almost all of the black paint is still present on the steel buckle, and the closure strap shows very light use. The tool pouch on the underside of the top flap still has the cover in an extended position, as if never folded and latched. The interior of the holster shows no apparent signs of a Luger pistol actually being held inside. Other than a few dark spots on the top flap and on the magazine pouch, with a few light handling marks, the leather still looks near new. A stunning Luger holster which can essentially not be upgraded upon.

Rating Definition:

Exceptional with only minor handling marks on the front of the holster, with all its original white stitching still intact. The markings on the back side of the holster are all clear and sharp with a GI's name (Gillespie) very lightly written in ink on the left belt loop, indicating the name of the soldier who captured this holster during the war. Just an outstanding holster that would be very hard to improve on.
