Inverted "V" front and tangent rear sights with the "S/42G" code marking on top of the receiver ring, indicating manufacture by Mauser in 1935. Introduced during the early years of the Nazi Party's dominance of Germany, the code system was intended to obscure the scale and speed of German re-armament. Matching numbers are present on many components, including the bolt and Heer-marked smooth pistol grip stock. Included with the rifle is a steel muzzle cover, brown leather sling and a bayonet (15 1/8 inches overall, 9 7/8 inch blade, wood grip) with sheath and frog.

Very fine as Arsenal refinished with 95% of the blue, showing areas of brown patina, bright edge wear and minor shallow pitting. The stock is fair with a gouge on the right side near the rear sight and a number of scattered dents and dark spots. Bayonet is good with a brown and gray patina overall and mild scuffs and verdigris on the frog. Mechanically very good.
