Description:

This is a very fine example of a desirable DWM Model 1900 "American Eagle" commercial Luger pistol. These pistols were the true first commercial contract Luger pistols produced by DWM and can be found in the 2000-19000 serial number range; this specific pistol falls toward the end of the production cycle. These pistols were specifically intended for sales in the U.S. market the "American Eagle" symbol on top of the chamber area. The front toggle has the standard DWM logo markings. This pistol has all the early desirable Luger features such as the: dished toggles with toggle lock on the right side, recessed breechblock, 4 3/4 inch fast tapered barrel, grip safety and no stock lug. It is correctly serial numbered in the commercial fashion with the serial number under the barrel and on the front of the frame, which is also marked "GERMANY". The pistol is fitted with smooth walnut grips with the steel inserts on the back side of each grip intended for the accompanying Ideal metal stock. It has an original, tin plated magazine with a wooden base that is marked with only "GERMANY". As noted, this early Luger pistol is accompanied by an original Ideal Company combination telescoping metal shoulder stock/leather holster. These stocks were patented in 1901 under Ross M. G. Phillips, L.A., CA and manufactured under the "Ideal Holster Co" in Los Angeles, CA. They were manufactured for only a very short time as the DWM factory eventually added a metal stock lug to the rear frame of every Luger pistol and developed their own walnut board stock, eliminating the need for these stocks. These early Luger have a beautiful hand polished blue finish with straw colored small parts.

Rating Definition:

Very fine with 80% of the faded original blue finish overall, edge and high spot wear, minor thinning on the grip straps intermixed with some brown patina and the front half of the right side frame rail shows light pitting probably from sitting in the holster. The various small parts retain 60% of their straw colors overall. The grips both have a nice dark brown color overall and both fit nice and tight. The Ideal stock/holster is in good condition with all the metal surfaces showing a light gray patina overall and minor light erosion/rust etching. The stock is in fair condition with all the leather intact, a dark oil stained appearance with some light age cracking on the sides and the leather still pliable and not stiff. A very nice early production DWM model 1900 American Eagle Luger rig complete with an Ideal shoulder combination stock/holster.
