Description:

This is an example of a Mauser commercial contract pistol that has the early style "Bolo" frame with the later style small ring hammer and side frame Mauser markings. This series of 1896 pistol was termed a "Bolo" broomhandle due to the unusual shape of the pistol grips. It is fitted with the standard blade front and 500-meter tangent rear sights, with the three-line address on top of the chamber, two-line address on the right side of the frame and matching external numbers. A "crown/crown/U" proof is stamped on the left side of the chamber with an Ulm "antler" on the right. The bottom of the barrel has three small proofs, vertically struck. A lanyard ring is installed on the butt with a stock slot in the back strap. Fitted with a pair of scarce factory checkered walnut grips, which are seldom encountered.

Rating Definition:

Very fine with 80% of the original blue finish showing bright wear along the high edges, mild handling marks and scattered mild spotting. An unknown blue residue, possibly paint, is present on much of the barrel and extension assembly. Grips are very good with moderate wear and some dings. Mechanically excellent. This is a desirable early "Bolo" Mauser Broomhandle pistol.
