The introductory year for Mauser P-38s, only around 700 "byf" code pistols were produced in 1942. Fixed sights, with "P.38" and "byf/42" on the left side of the slide and "eagle/135" proofs on a number of components. The full serial number "822" (no suffix) is present on the slide, frame, barrel and locking block. Fitted with ribbed brown plastic grips and a "WaA706" proofed magazine.

Very fine, with 70% of the faded original blue finish, showing areas of gray patina on the barrel and grip strap, bright edge wear and scattered spotting and handling marks. The barrel shows a rough texture around the muzzle and down the left side, possibly a factory machining error. Grips are very good, with some light scratches. Mechanically excellent.
