Description:

Measuring 35 1/2 inches in overall length with a 29 1/2 inch straight double fuller blade, signed "Coulaux & Cie Klingenthal" on the spine, an "AK" monogram etched on the left ricasso and a 10 3/4 inch etched martial themed panel on both sides of the blade. Originally established by the French as a domestic alternative to Solingen production, Klingenthal fell into German hands in the aftermath of the Franco-Prussian War. The hilt is finely sculpted and engraved gilt brass, with a double sided eagle of Kaiser Wilhelm II on the pierced-through guard, another "AK" monogram engraved on the guard, raised laurel designs, a wire wrapped horn grip with gilt Wilhelm emblem and a Phrygian helmet pommel. With a black enamel finished single ring scabbard.

Rating Definition:

Very fine with some mild handling marks overall. Over 80% of the original gold is present on the guard with a well aged patina on the exposed areas and a few dark spots. Mild scuffing is present on the scabbard.
