Description:

1) E. Walther (Dresden) production German Damascus artillery sword, 36 1/2 inches in overall length. The curved Damascus blade is 30 3/4 inches long with a pipe spine and gold washed etching showing the makers mark among vines on the spine, the Coat of Arms of the Kingdom of Saxony over "EISENHAUER" (iron hewer) on the right, and an array of arms over "DAMASTSTAHL" (Damascus steel) on the left. The hilt is silver finished brass with cross cannons on the right languet, raised sculpted designs, wire wrapped sharkskin grip and a lion head pommel with red glass eyes. The tang is visible on top of the pommel, with a stamping of a crown over an anchor on a shield. 2) Gieve, Matthews & Seagrove British naval dirk 23 1/2 inches long with an 18 inch etched blade. Sculpted brass hilt with a crowned anchor languet, acorn-tipped quillions, wire-wrapped rayskin grip and a lion head pommel. With a black leather sheath fitted with engraved brass hardware, dual suspension rings, a retention clip and "Y.T.T." inscribed on the back of the throat.

Rating Definition:

1) Very good. A bright gray patina is present on the blade with some mild spotting, a good amount of gilt finish and solid decorative etching. The Damascus pattern has faded but is still present overall. The hilt is good as cleaned with a number of dents and some wear on the grip. 2) Good. The blade shows a number of dents on the edge with a mixed gray patina, some spotting and small areas of pitting. The hilt is good, with an aged patina on the brass and scattered dents. The sheath is good with some cracking and scuffing of the leather and mild handling marks overall.
