Description:

This is a an excellent example of a pre-war Japanese Baby Nambu pistol as manufactured by the Tokyo arsenal. This is an excellent all matching Baby nambu pistol that includes two matching magazines, and an original Baby Nambu Holster. The top of the chamber area bears the four intertwined cannon balls of the Tokyo Arsenal, and the right side of the receiver has the Japanese Kanji markings over the serial number "3871". The matching serial numbers are also visible on the underside of the bolt, the back side of the cocking knob, and on the inside of the left grip panel. The pistol is complete with two nickel plated magazines with aluminum bases, that are correctly numbered, "3871 and 3871" . It is complete with an original Japanese Baby Nambu holster and cleaning rod. The "Baby" Nambu is perhaps the most desirable Japanese semi-automatic pistol. This pistol has a high quality rust blue finish and straw colored trigger, magazine release, sear pivot pin and bolt lock with a bright finished bolt, and checkered mahogany grips. Accompanying this very desirable pistol, is an original WWII Japanese Samurai Sword in the standard Shin-Gunto mounts. The sword itself is a WWII Japanese Army officers (Katana) sword in the wartime Shin-Gunto mounts. The mounts are the standard brass cast, tsuba, sword fittings, menuki and white ray-skin cover on the handle with a heavy brown cloth wrapping. The blade has a nice distinct temper line, almost straight in style with a single blood groove on each side. It is complete with a standard shin-gunto scabbard (saya) with the dark brown painted exterior complete with the top hanger and ring, and lower hilt cap on the end. As noted these two items are accompanied by the original capture papers from WWII indicating Capt Robert Stenger is authorized to have these two items, "1 Pistol serial number (3871) and 1 Saber" listing that both were captured in Luzon.

Rating Definition:

The pistol is excellent overall with 95% of the blue finish with edge and high spot wear with minor blue loss on the edge of the recoil spring housing and muzzle area, with the grip straps showing some very fine pin-prick rusting just starting to develop. The grips are in very fine condition with nice distinct checkering on both sides with only a couple minor handling marks. The holster is in very fine condition with a nice medium brown color overall with tight stitching, showing minor age cracking on the front of the flap and upper rear area on the hinge, with some minor scuffing on the belt loops and lower toe area. The Samurai sword is in very good condition with 90% of the painted finish on the scabbard with the handle wrapping intact, but showing fraying and wear over the menuki area with one section reglued. The unsigned blade is also in fine condition with a nice clear temper line, the lower 4-5 inches of the blade have several minor nicks in the edge with some very heavy scratches on both sides in this area. A nice looking pair of WWII Japanese Capture items.
