Description:

This is a very fine example of an pre-war 1902 Naval contract Papa Nambu pistol as manufactured by the TG&E Company under the supervision of the Tokyo Artillery Arsenal. Approximately 1,500 were manufactured with this example being from the first block of pistols. It was a continuation of the earlier Grandpa versions of the Nambu pistols with the stock-slot in the rear grip strap filled in (as is the case with this example). As noted this is a 1st Model Naval contract with the first type two-piece non-milled frame with the stock slot filled in with metal and the "A" type Naval anchor proof. The right side of the upper receiver has the "Naval Anchor" markings next to the Kana characters/inspector markings over the serial number "621". The top of the chamber has the circled "TGE" markings of the Tokyo Gas and Electric Company that manufactured these pistols for the Japanese Navy. These pistols are equipped with adjustable tangent rear sight on top graduated from 1-5 (100- 500) meters and a fixed inverted "V" front sight, grip safety on the front of the grip strap, and a lanyard loop on the upper rear of the frame. They have an all rust blued finish with straw colored trigger and extractor spring. The grips are the checkered mahogany and it is complete with one magazine with aluminum floor plate numbered "778" on the spine.

Rating Definition:

Very fine overall with 70% of the original blue finish remaining mostly in the protected areas with the balance a dark brown oxidized patina with the front and rear grip straps, grip safety and trigger guard bow and right side of the barrel extension showing some minor pin-prick pitting. This pistol has three mechanical issues; 1) the cocking knob spring is missing and it won't lock in place, 2) it has an incorrect firing pin spring and 3) the firing pin was broken off at some point and the it has been retipped poorly. The grips are very fine with distinct checkering with minimal handling marks overall. This pistol has matching numbers on both grips, the breech bolt, and cocking knob. This is a very fine example of an early Model 1902 Navy issue Papa Nambu pistol. You will look a long time to find a finer example!
