Description:

The American Long Rifle, first developed in Pennsylvania and commonly known as the Kentucky rifle, is often considered the first truly American firearm and was developed by country gunsmiths of mostly Germanic origin and have been made by craftsmen in North America for centuries. As hunting implements, they have taken countless deer and other game, and it was American long rifles in the Seven Years War and the American Revolution that demonstrated the utility of accurate long range fire in warfare even if European armies were slow to adapt. This classic Kentucky rifle has a lightly engraved lock with removable flash pan. The part octagon barrel has small blade front and notch rear sights. The full length stock has a forend cap and brass furniture including a patch box with decorative extensions, oval shields on the wrist, star shaped insert on the cheek piece, trigger guard, side plate, buttplate, and ram rode pipes. The stock also has a thin carved accent line along both sides of the forend and a coordinating line along the bottom of the cheek piece.

Rating Definition:

Good. The barrel and lock have a mottled gray-brown patina with some light pitting while the brass has primarily an aged patina aside from the orange varnished patch box. The stock is very good with some chipping near the lock, some small hairline cracks, a couple slight repairs, and some overall light scratches. The action is excellent and the floral patterns on the lock are crisp. A very attractive example of an American classic.
