Description:

Manufactured in 1870, this Third Model 1866 SRC features special ordered nickel finish on all parts except for the barrel and magazine tube. It's estimated that only about 300 Winchester Model 1866s were plated in some manner, nickel, gold, silver, etc. (See The Winchester Book" by Madis, page 126). The top of the barrel is marked with the faint two-line address/King's improvement marking and the serial number is marked on the lower tang behind the trigger. Full length tube magazine, front sight blade integral with the front barrel band and folding two leaf rear sight. Saddle ring and staple mounted on the left side of the receiver. Mounted with a smooth forearm secured with a single barrel band and straight grip stock with crescent buttplate with compartment, (cleaning rod not included).

Rating Definition:

Very fine. The receiver retains 90% of the original nickel plating with some minor flaking on the edges. There are two small marks between the receiver and side plate on the left side. The elevator retains 70% original nickel with some wear from normal usage. 60% original nickel remains on the barrel bands, buttplate and lever. The barrel and magazine have a smooth mottled brownish once cleaned patina with some minor pitting on the barrel along the edge of the forearm on the right side. The barrel address is very light and barely legible. The wood is about good. There is a lightly carved "AW" into the right side of the stock, a deep scratch on the left side and scattered overall minor dings, dents and scratches. Mechanically excellent. A nice solid example of a rare special order Model 1866 with nickel plated parts.
