Description:

This Third Model variation of the Winchester Model 1873 was manufactured in 1891 and features a special order half magazine and blued frame. The rifle has an integral dust cover rail and dust cover with serrated edges. The receiver has the "step" at the junction with the barrel found on rifles chambered for .22, .32 and .38 caliber cartridges. The barrel has the two-line address and patent information ahead of the rear sight and "38 W.C.F." on top at the breech end. It is equipped with a standard sporting style front sight with nickel-silver blade and a semi-buckhorn sporting style rear sight with screw-adjustable center insert and serrated edges. The upper tang is marked with the model designation and is factory drilled and tapped for mounting a peep sight. The stock and forearm are straight grain American walnut with a varnish finish and are fitted with a crescent buttplate with brass trap. "38 CAL" is stamped in script letters across the bottom of the brass cartridge elevator. The serial number is marked on the tail of the lower tang.

Rating Definition:

Fine as fitted with a replaced dust cover. The rifle retains 60% plus of the original blue finish and muted case colors on the lever, frame, and buttplate with a brown patina on the balance and some light scratches. The wood is also fine with some scrapes and dings. The action is excellent, and the markings are clear.
