Description:

This is an astoundingly high condition example of a Winchester Model 1895 carbine manufactured in 1903. The Model 1895 series was designed by John Browning and was the first box magazine Winchester rifle. It was designed to handle strong pointed bullets that were incompatible with other lever actions of the period. Theodore Roosevelt personally ensured that the Rough Rider officers were issued Model 1895s for their participation in the Spanish-American War and Roosevelt prized his custom Model 1895 sporting rifles during his post-war hunting expeditions. This carbine has a pinned blade front sight and folding ladder rear sight graduated "10" to "18". The action is marked with the Winchester proof over "30/ARMY" at the breech and the two line address and patent information on the left side. The upper tang has the model and trade mark information and the lower tang is marked with the serial number. It is fitted with a saddle ring and stud on the left side of the action and a smooth oiled walnut straight grip stock, handguard, and forearm with grasping grooves. Included with the carbine is an original factory "ASSEMBLING SHOP TAG" and a two piece cleaning rod.

Rating Definition:

Near new. The carbine retains 99% plus of the original blue finish with only some slight blemishes such as a tiny scrape on the right side of the receiver, light rub wear near the saddle ring, and slight cycling wear. The wood is in matching excellent condition with some slight discoloration in the right side grasping groove and some slight handling/storage marks. The action is excellent, and the markings are sharp. The hang tag is in very good condition for its age with some light aging. This is the highest condition Model 1895s we have ever had the pleasure of offering!
