Description:

Measuring 11 3/8 inches overall, with a 6 1/4 inch long and 2 inch wide double edged spear point blade secured to a smooth carved hardwood hilt with a pair of iron rivets. The consignor attributes the knife as a 1860s era weapon constructed by an unidentified Plains Indian tribe.

Rating Definition:

Very good. Actually in fine condition for a Native American knife as they used everything until it fell apart. Carving on the wooden grip makes this extra fancy. Usually they would be very simple, as the Indians would acquire the blade from the trader and hand fit it themselves. The blade has taken on an aged brown patina with pitting and a number of chips on the edges, and the grip shows a fair number of chips and age cracks. Dag style knives are highly sought after.
