Description:

Sullivan Forehand and Henry Wadsworth each married one of Ethan Allen's daughters and were part of E. Allen & Co. until they restructured the business as Forehand & Wadsworth upon Allen's death in 1871. As with Allen's firearms, their guns were high quality weapons as is made clear by this example which is still a solid firearm after nearly a century and a half. These New Model Army revolvers were improved versions of the mid-1870s Old Model. Fewer than 1,000 are estimated to have been manufactured in the late 1870s to 1880s. The top of the barrel is marked "FOREHAND & WADSWORTH WORCESTER, MASS. U.S.A./---PAT'D OCT. 22,61- APRIL 20'75-MAY 30'76---", and the matching serial number is marked on the butt and rear face of the cylinder. It has a round blade front sight and integral rear sight notch at the rear of the top strap. The cylinder pin slides into a rib under the barrel with an ejector housing fixed to the right side. The cylinder pin does not need to be fully removed to withdraw the cylinder. It has a full nickel plated finish aside from the casehardened trigger guard and is fitted with a pair of smooth replacement grips and a lanyard loop.

Rating Definition:

Very good as period plated. The revolver retains 85% plus of the nickel plating which has aged to a matte or frosted appearance overall with some areas of light pitting, bright exposed steel, and minor spotting. The revarnished grips are very good with only faint handling marks. The barrel markings are slightly obscured but are legible aside from the A in "U.S.A." The action remains fine.
