Description:

This design was patented by Augustus Bennett on January 27, 1863 (reissue April 14) and produced by B. Kittredge & Co; originally as an accessory for the Frank Wesson rifles the firm was selling. The box was readily adaptable for use with the 44RF cartridge (such as the Henry rifle). Construction is solid brass with "B.KITTREDGE & CO./GUN DEALERS/CIN OHIO/PATENTED. JAN. 27, 1863/REISSUED APL.14, 63" stamped on the spring loaded lid, brass belt loops and spring, and a round body.

Rating Definition:

Very good. The brass has an attractive patina (dark patina is present on the back). The markings are legible.
