This is an example of a factory engraved Colt Model 1849 Pocket revolver that was manufactured in 1852. This revolver features factory donut scroll and punch dot engraving on barrel lug and rear upper flats, the frame, trigger guard bow, butt and upper and lower back strap. The hammer sides are engraved with the distinctive fish head motif. The top of the back strap has a shell design. The top barrel flat is hand engraved "Saml Colt" surrounded by simple line engraving. The left side of the frame is marked "COLTS/PATENT" in a panel. The cylinder is roll engraved with the stagecoach holdup scene. The matching serial number is marked on the bottom of the barrel, frame, trigger guard and back strap. A single "." is stamped near most of the serial numbers indicating factory engraving. It is fitted with a replacement walnut grip numbered to another gun. It comes in a hardwood case with fitted interior containing a tin of percussion caps, dual cavity Colt bullet mold, brass powder flask, combination tool, and framed portrait of a young man (appears to be a daguerreotype).

Fair. The frame, barrel, and cylinder are heavily worn and have a gray patina with some scattered light pitting. The trigger guard and grip straps retain over 60% of the replated silver plating. The grip is fine with mild handling wear. The marking and engraving patterns are partially faded but mostly legible throughout. The action is fine, but the cylinder pin has been repaired. The case is poor with broken areas and stained interior. The accessories are fair to fine. Half of the hinged frame/case for the portrait is absent.
