Description:

This Campbell patent 1855-1856 military pommel holster and pouch was designed expressly for use with the Campbell patent saddle under General Order 13 of 1855. This combination rig was issued for trial to one squadron each in the 1st and 2nd Cavalry. The long bodied holster held the .58 percussion Model 1855 single shot pistol and the utility pouch could be used to carry the accompanying shoulder stock. The rig is constructed of heavy black bridle leather. The unique design of the cover was swivel mounted to the holster which rotated forward on a brass plate and axle to expose the throat of the holster. When closed the cover secured under an abbreviated flap or "roof piece" sewn to the connecting leather. These would have also been used for other arms such as Colt Walkers or Dragoons if a Cavalry officer would have been fortunate enough to have possessed one. Comes in a homemade wooden case with glass top.

Rating Definition:

About good (and way above average) with moderate/heavy cracking and some material loss. The leather is beginning to stiffen, however remains flexible.
