Description:

Produced circa 1873-1876. Blade front and folding ladder rear sights, no markings on the breech of the barrel, a "eagle/crossed arrows" marked high-arch breechblock, 2-click tumbler and an "U.S./SPRINGFIELD/1873" marked lock. Smooth straight wrist stock in "long wrist/short comb" configuration with sling swivels, "B" stamped on the wrist, comb and either side of the buttstock; and some small letters scratched around the "US" buttplate.

Rating Definition:

Fair with a mixed brown and gray patina on the blued components and traces of the pattern on the casehardened parts. Mild pitting is visible near the muzzle, on the hammer and the trigger guard, and some dings and polishing marks are on the breechblock. The serial number is faint, but legible. The stock is fair with light chipping around the ramrod and tang, dents and scuffs. Mechanically good.
