Description:

This Model 1899 Krag carbine was manufactured between 1899 and 1902. The serial number correctly falls into the carbine serial number range (222609-362256), and it features a blade front sight on a high stud and a Mauser style rear sight graduated from 2 to 20 on the ladder with a correct "C" marked base. The cocking piece is the small knurled knob variant and is only found on some of the 1899 carbines. The left side of the receiver has the standard markings. It is mounted with a straight grip half stock with handguard, single barrel band and slightly curve toed steel buttplate with a trapdoor compartment (cleaning rod absent). The stock has no visible cartouches. The included information from the Springfield Research service indicates that this carbine was in a shipment of 100 sent to the Raritan Arsenal and 10 were "to be reserved for sale to reserve officer stationed at the arsenal." This carbine was one of the 10 reserved as documented in the included records. In the "Inspection of Ordnance Material" document dated March 3, 1936, this carbine as identified by serial number was listed as having no defects.

Rating Definition:

Fine. The blue finish and case colors have faded and a mostly even brown patina has taken their place. The stock is very good with some minor dings and light scratches. The handguard has some cracks at the front. The action is excellent and the markings are crisp throughout.
