Description:

This is an fine example of an early 20th century U.S. Army Cavalry saddle. The brown leather saddle has an open center, a soft sheepskin like padding, a brass shield at the front marked "11 1/2 INCH/SEAT", and brass mounted rings on the front and back. With a large iron rings on either side of the saddle, with a leather disk protecting the left. The girth appears to be horse hair, with iron fittings. Stirrups are iron without leather protectors. Accompanying the saddle is a set of canvas lined brown leather saddle bags with three straps on each flap and marked "US" in ovals. Also includes a bridle with bit, reigns and attaching leathers, as well as an unmarked yellow leather trimmed saddle pad.

Rating Definition:

Very good overall with assorted rub marks and scuffs, verdigris at the brass fittings, brown patina and oxidation present on iron fittings and some fraying of the horse hair girth. The pad is fine with some loose stitching, discoloration, and general usage marks.
