Description:

This pistol was manufactured between approximately 1845 and 1870 with a trigger guard finial that most closely resembles the design commonly found on Henry Deringer's pistols produced between 1848-1850. The top of the silver banded breech and tail of the back action lock plate are marked "DERINGER/PHILADELa". The left upper left flat of the breech is also marked with the sunburst "( P )" marking commonly found on Henry Deringer's pistols. Most of the surfaces display floral engraving while the barrel is plain, the tear drop buttplate has a zig zag border, and the initial shield has a zig zag border and is marked "TJM" or "IJM". The underside of the barrel and breech have a series of small dot and bar marks as does the wedge. The pistol is similar to some of the Henry Deringer examples pictured in Wilson and Eberhart's THE DERINGER IN AMERICA VOLUME I. It has a checkered bird's head stock.

Rating Definition:

Very good. Aside from the German silver furniture, most of the metal surfaces display a dark brown patina. The stock is fine with some pressure marks and slight scrapes along with crisp checkering, and a slight hairline crack on the left at the breech. The action is very good, and most of the markings and engraving remain clear.
