This is a very good example of an engraved/etched and gold inlaid French Gaulois palm pistol. These pistols were produced from the early 1890s until 1911 or 1912. The frame and operating rod have nearly full coverage of floral scroll designs. The barrel has "GAULOIS" and the crossed cannons and arrow logo inlaid in gold on top with light engraved accents and a wedge of scroll engraving on each side. The front sight is a silver post/bead. The top of the frame is marked in gold "CAL." and 8m/m" over the chamber with the full company marking "MANUFACTURE FRANCAISE/SAINT-ETIENNE" in a circle between gold lines surrounding "ARMES/ ET/ CYCLES" at the rear. The left side of the frame has circled "S", "F" and "D" in gold inlay. It is fitted with a mother of pearl pad. The pistol comes with a coin purse style holster.

Very fine. The barrel retains 80% plus of the faded original blue finish while the frame retains traces of the faded original finish and primarily a gray-brown patina. Strong remnants of fiery case colors remain visible on the lever. Most of the gold inlay on the markings remain, and the patterns are crisp. There are some patches of minor oxidations and overall light handling marks. The grip pad is very good with slight handling wear. The action is fine. The purse is fine with some stains and minor tears where the muzzle would rest.
