Description:

This pistol almost certainly came from the shop of well known Philadelphia gunsmith William Robertson (active circa 1829-1860). Robertson is best known for his duelling pistols. The barrel of this pistol is long enough to have been used as a cane but was likely designed as a target pistol. It has blade and notch sights, "ROBERTSON PHILADA" on the barrel ahead of the breech, a gold banded and engraved breech plug, "ROBERTSON" marked back action lock with light engraving, a spurred trigger guard and a walnut stock with checkering on the grip and an unmarked initial shield.

Rating Definition:

Good. The barrel retains dark brown finish with streaks of residue and some pitting at the breech. The lock has a dark gray patina. The trigger guard has brown finish. The German silver wedge escutcheons and initial shield remain mostly bright with some light verdigris. The dark stock is very good with mostly crisp checkering, a few dings, and some scratches. The action needs some work as it regularly catches at half cock when fired.
