The locks and rib of this shotgun are marked "Gobert Aine a Lyon" (Gobert the Elder in Lyon). The rib marking is gilded. Two Gobert brother gunmakers appear in the French records as early as the 1830s. The rib is fitted with a single post front sight. The lock plates and most of the components have floral engraving patterns and a scene with a running dog is on the trigger guard. It is fitted on a nicely figured walnut stock with "tiger stripe" patterns. The bore measurement is .90 caliber (approximately 23 mm/6.278 bore). It includes a ramrod with flared metal tip.

Very good. Nearly all of the gold inlay on the barrel markings remain. The brown finish on the barrel group has mostly thinned to gray with partially faded but visible patterns along the length. The case colors have also mostly faded to gray on the remaining components. There are some small patches of light spotting and some light corrosion on the buttplate. The stock is fine with a crack across the bottom between the locks and some minor pressure marks and scrapes. It is mechanically excellent and has crisp markings and engraving designs.
