Description:

The Remington-Beals First Model revolvers were manufactured in 1857 and 1858 with a total production run of between 4,500 and 5,000 revolvers in five distinct variations. The Beals revolvers were the first revolvers produced by Remington and were produced upon the expiration of Colt's master patent. This example is one of the Fifth Issue revolvers with a round frame mounted pawl as was used on the Beals Second Model, and the nipple wells serve as the locking notches. The top of the barrel has the two line Beals patent information, and the top strap has the three line Remington address. It has a primarily blued finish with casehardened hammer and German silver trigger guard. It has a German silver cone front sight, raised notch on the top strap for a rear sight, and smooth gutta percha grip.

Rating Definition:

Fine. 60% plus of the bright original blue finish remains with a brown patina on the balance. The trigger guard and front sight are partially bright with some aged patina, and the hammer retains remnants of the dark case colors. The grip is fine with light handling wear. It is mechanically excellent and displays crisp markings.
