Description:

Remington produced these "Saw Handle Derringers" from the end of the Civil War through 1888 with a production total of roughly 15,000 or less. This example is the .32 caliber version listed as the "No. 2" size in Remington catalogs. The top of the barrel is marked "REMINGTON'S ILION, N.Y. / PAT-OCT. 1. 1861. NOV. 15.1861" with the notched rear sight cut through the last part of the patent information and a brass cone front sight. It has a checkered hammer and breech, smooth spur trigger, and smooth rosewood grips.

Rating Definition:

Fine. The pistol retains 30% of the silver plated finish with otherwise a mottled gray-brown patina overall with light pitting. The grips are fine with a hairline crack in the left panel and some light handling marks. The action is fine, and the marking are mostly clear.
