Description:

This is a Victorian era officer's lance cap for the 9th Lancers. The skull, peak and top are composed of black patent leather. The waist has a gilt band simulating gold bullion cord. The mortar board top has black melton cloth sides with gilt leaf corner decorations, smooth gilt metal strips run down the angled corners and there is a gilt plume boss simulating coiled cord with a button in the center which supports a black and white feather plume without a ring. Two lion's head ear bosses suspend the decorated velvet backed chin chain. The gilt rayed plate has the Victorian crown at the top over the Royal Arms of Great Britain and Queen Adelaide's Coat-of-Arms. In the center is a silvered double "AR" cypher with a banner underneath reading "ROYAL LANCERS" and surrounded by 12 battle honors the latest being "KANDAHAR" and "AFGHANISTAN" without dates. The front peak is edged with gilt metal and is lined with green leather. The sweat band is natural color leather and the silk lining is red with a gold embossed "SANDILANDS & SON" label. The additional 9th Lancers officer's cap plate is larger with the coat-of-arms increased in size and no battle honors on the plate.

Rating Definition:

Fine, the patent leather shows some light scratches on the edging. The gilt components have a bright appearance with some wear on the high edges. The silver has a dark aged patina. The sweat band and lining have some stains. The additional plate has a bright appearance with some wear on the high edges and a dark aged patina on the silver.
