Description:

This rifle was made in the classic Kentucky or Pennsylvania rifle style and is attributed to Christian Beck active in the late 18th to early 19th centuries primarily Dauphine County, Pennsylvania. The patch box is nearly identical to the example pictured on page 12 of THE KENTUCKY RIFLE by John G. W. Dillin. Also note that this example and the one on that page both feature a groove towards the tail of the lock plates and similar brass forend caps. The octagon barrel has blade front and notch rear sights and is pinned on the full length stock which has brass and German silver furniture including a figured brass patch box and displays incised designs and fine lines. It includes a wooden ramrod

Rating Definition:

Very good as professionally reconverted/refinished to Flintlock configuration. The barrel and lock display an artificial brown finish/patina that is reddish in hue with some spots of minor pitting and various small nicks. The barrel is mostly separated from the upper tang. The brass furniture has a nice aged patina with some minor marks and scratches. The initial shield on the wrist has a dark patina while the star on the cheek piece is brighter with some slight browning. The stock is very good with some bruises and abrasions and a few slight cracks (look repaired). The action is excellent.
