Description:

The barrel of this American long rifle has no visible markings and is fitted with blade front and sporting rear sights. The rifle was built using a "JAS GOLCHER/PHILADA" marked lock plate with some light floral designs that extend to the hammer. Nearly all rifles with Golcher/Goulcher marked locks were produced by other gunsmiths using locks made by the Golcher family. It was common practice for rifles to be built from parts of varying origin in the 19th century. It is fitted on a full length stock with brass furniture, German silver inlays, and a small cheekpiece. It is equipped with double set triggers.

Rating Definition:

Good. The barrel has a mix of faded brown finish and gray-brown patina, The brass components have a lightly aged patina while the German silver inlays are mostly bright. The stock is fine with a variety of scrapes and dings and a few small cracks. It is mechanically fine with mostly clear markings and engraving though the patterns on the tail of the lock plate are faded.
