This is a "high hammer" variation of the Colt Number Three "Thuer" Derringer. Large italic "-COLT-" on top of the barrel, and a "crown/V" and "crown/GP" on the underside. The matching serial number is marked on the left side of the frame under the grip and on the underside of the barrel. The left side of the frame is marked with a "C" followed by the Rampant Colt (Von Oppen mark?). Blade front sight, blue barrel, silver plated brass frame, casehardened hammer and niter blue trigger. Fitted with checkered grips with "5905" marked on the inside of each panel. Comes in a relined case with an inset brass rectangle on the lid and fitted wine colored velvet lining. In the case is a key and a metal cleaning rod. A strap has been added to the inside of the fitted area to pull the derringer out of the case. Also comes with 6 rounds of "U" head stamped 41 caliber bullets.

Fine. The barrel retains 40% original thin blue finish with gray patina on the balance. There is a small amount of light spotting on the left side of the barrel. The frame retains 30% original silver plating, some having darkened with age. The balance shows a pleasant aged patina. The grips are very good as period hand checkered with some age darkening and a few small minor chips. The markings are clear. The action is fine. The relined custom case is good with some corner wear, and a few minor dings and dents. The lining shows some wear and fraying, otherwise it is very good.
