Description:

Manufactured in 1927. The revolver has the Colt pre-war commercial blue finish on the barrel, cylinder, trigger guard and back strap. The frame, loading gate and hammer are color casehardened and have brilliant case colors. The trigger has a niter blue finish. The two-piece, black, checkered, hard rubber grips have the Rampant Colt trademark embossed in an oval at the top of the grip. The left side of the barrel is roll-stamped: with the caliber designation: "45 COLT" which was used on pre-war Single Action revolvers until about 354,000.The top of the barrel is roll-stamped with the elongated block address: "COLTS PT.F.A. MFG. Co. HARTFORD CT. U.S.A." in one line. The left side of the frame is roll-stamped with the Colt "Two-Line/Three-Date" patent markings followed by the Rampant Colt trademark. The left front of the trigger guard bow is stamped with a "3" assembler's mark above the Colt "Triangle/VP" proof mark. The assembly number "253" is stamped on the inside of the loading gate. The full serial number, "350829" is stamped on the bottom of the frame and the right side of the back strap and trigger guard underneath the grip. "350829" is lightly scratched on the inside of both grips. The partial serial number "29" is stamped between the chambers on the rear face of the cylinder. All of the visible serial numbers match. The frame has the fouling cut-out in the top strap, and the hammer has border-less knurling on the spur. The revolver is complete with a royal blue cardboard carton. The blue and white label on the end of the carton reads: "7 1/2 Colt's Army S.A. Revolver. .45/Rubber Blue". Colt advertising labels are glued on the inside of the lid and the bottom of the carton. The serial number "350829" is written in grease pencil on one end of the carton bottom. The carton contains a Colt "SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS" pamphlet.

Rating Definition:

Near new. The revolver is all original and retains 99.9% of the original blue and vivid color casehardened finish. There are no turn marks between the cylinder stops and no edge wear on the barrel, ejector housing or cylinder edges. Handling and storage wear is limited to a few tiny and almost un-noticeable flecks of surface spotting on the back strap near the butt. The grips are in perfect condition. The carton is in very good overall condition; wear is limited to broken corners on the label end of the lid and some flaking in the royal blue covering on the sides of the lid and one end of the bottom. The end label is in excellent condition. The interior is clean and free from stains or damage. This is an exceptional example of a new condition, pre-war Colt Single Action Army revolver with earlier style caliber designation on the barrel and casehardened hammer. It would be extremely hard to improve on this exceptional Colt Single Action Army.
