This is a fine example of a rare Colt Model 1877 DA Lightning revolver with a scarce 6 inch barrel that was shipped to John Meunier Gun Company in Milwaukee Wis. in a one gun shipment in April 1901for a F.M. Sears. The Colt factory letter verifies the exact configuration of this revolver. These longer barreled 1877 Lightning revolvers are very scarce as almost all of this model were produced with the shorter 2 1/2 to 4 inch barrels intended as early pocket revolver. The top of the barrel has the shorter two-line Colt factory barrel address of: "COLTS PT. F.A. MFG. Co./ HARTFORD CT. U.S.A." with the left side marked "COLT D.A. 38" and no markings on the edge of the trigger guard. The Lightning was the first Colt DA revolver ever produced and proved to be very successful. This model also has the ejector rod on the right underside of the barrel like the standard SAA revolver with the early round "bullseye" ejector head. The left side of the frame is marked with the three-line, three date patent markings followed by the Rampant Colt logo. It has the blue parts, a color casehardened frame and the niter blued hammer, trigger, screws, cross pin and checkered cylinder pin, It is fitted with a set of gutta-percha hard rubber grips. It has matching numbers on the frame, trigger guard, back strap and cylinder with the barrel numbered "138", (which was probably a factory error) and the loading gate marked with the assembly number "376".

Fine as partially restored (front sight reconstructed) with 40% plus of the original blue finish overall with even, honest wear and more blue in the protected areas. The frame has a silver-gray patina finish overall with traces of the case colors in the protected areas. The grips are both in fine condition with nice distinct Colt markings and checkering on both sides showing light wear overall. A very nice example of a scarce long barreled Colt 1877 DA revolver.
