Manufactured in 1892, this Lightning is marked "COLT'S PT.F.A. MFG. CO. HARTFORD CT. U.S.A/PATENTED MAY 29. SEPT. 18. 1883 MAY 26. 85. JUNE 15. 86.FEB. 22. 87." and "44 Cal" on the barrel. The Rampant Colt is on the left side of the frame and the serial number on the lower tang. The carbine has the standard iron front and folding carbine rear sights, full length magazine tube, sliding dust cover and does not have the slide release on the trigger guard. A saddle ring and staple with a leather strap are mounted on the left side of the receiver. It is mounted with a checkered forearm and straight grip stock with a steel carbine buttplate. Full serial number "64736" on upper left side of tang (internal) and last four digits "4736" on front of buttstock (internal).

Very fine. 80% of the original nickel plating remains on the barrels while the sides of the frame display 40% bright exposed steel. There is some light spotting throughout. The wood is also very fine with crisp checkering, slivers absent at the junction with the upper tang, and a few small dings. One side of the forearm is darker than the other and the wood overall is a lighter tone than is standard. The action is very good, and the markings are crisp throughout.
