Description:

This is an example of a First Model pepperbox pistol designed by Eben T. Starr of Yonkers, New York and actually manufactured by the Merrill Patent Firearms Manufacturing Company of Baltimore, Maryland in the mid to late 1860s. The only markings are "STARR'S PAT'S MAY 10. 1864" (4 faded) on the left side of the frame and "X"s on the bottom of the barrel grip and on the fame. It has a side hammer, brass post and frame groove sights, a button trigger and walnut grips. Only 2,000 or so of the pistols were manufactured in six models; the Fourth and Fifth Models account for approximately three quarters of those produced making this First Model very rare.

Rating Definition:

Good. The barrel and hammer have primarily a gray patina with traces of the original finish and some light pitting. The frame has silver plating in the protected areas and displays an aged patina on the visible surfaces with some small nicks and light scrapes. The grips are good with some abrasions and pressure marks. The action remains excellent.
